We run the sign-in worker so you don't have to. Your repo and your host stay yours.
Why GitHub? Your site's files live in a GitHub repository that you own, and Kiln saves every edit there. Signing in with GitHub is how Kiln knows which sites are yours.

You need a terminal with Node 20 or newer. In your site's project folder, run:
npx github:kilncms/kiln#release
It copies the Kiln files in and leaves your pages alone. So paste these two lines into every HTML page, right before </body>:
<script src="/assets/kiln-config.js"></script>
<script src="/assets/kiln.js" defer></script>
Then commit & push. A page without those two lines never loads Kiln. To choose what is editable, run npx github:kilncms/kiln#release tag for a first pass, or click sections in the browser later with Make text/images editable.
Install the Kiln app
Let Kiln save your edits by installing the GitHub App on that repo.

Enter your repo and live URL below and pick a plan. Your 7-day free trial starts when you add the site, with no card. Then edit your live site at yoursite.com/kiln.
Add a site
Done steps 1–2 above? Point Kiln at your repo and its live URL and choose a plan. Your 7-day trial starts the moment you add the site, with no card, and editing works straight away. You are then taken to checkout: subscribe there, or come back and press Subscribe any time in the 7 days. Without a subscription, editing switches off after day 7 until you subscribe.
